While hanging out in Nashville for the PPA ImagingUSA conference, my friend Jodi and I spent some time exploring the city. Jodi also brought her new lens ball. A lens ball is basically a glass ball . . . kinda like the crystal ball in Wizard of Oz, only smaller. When you photograph through the ball you get an upside-down reflection of the subject.
I’ve seen lots of photos with these lens balls. While I was never really interested in getting one myself, I was interested in the opportunity to play with one. Turns out they’re a lot more fun than I thought they’d be. There was a bit of a learning curve to shooting with the lens ball but it’s a lot easier than trying to shoot a raindrop hanging off the petal of a flower. 😉
