Several weeks before Christmas my sister contacted me asking me to connect her with a friend of mine who has his own recording studio. Her husband is a musician and she wanted to gift him a day in the studio recording music for his birthday (which happens to be Christmas day . . . poor guy).
I contacted my friend Carl, of Carl Dudley and Friends and soon the gift was scheduled. I drove out to the studio to introduce my sister and her family to my friend. I’d only planned to stay for a couple hours to take a few pictures. I ended up staying the whole day.
Even though I’m not musical, it was fun to watch others work out of their passion for music. Everyone got to record a song whether they were singing or playing an instrument.
But by far, my favorite part of the day was when the whole family gathered around the microphone to lay down some extra vocal tracks on one of the songs.
I watched my sister and her family; all smiles as they “whoop whooped” into the mic. I teared up (and nearly started crying) as I realized this is the stuff memories are made from. It’s moments like these that bring families together and gives them stories to tell years later. I’m so glad I stayed and was able to document it for them.
